Real Salt Lake extends loan deal for Gonzalez

07/13/2010 - Sandy, UT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Real Salt Lake agreed with Argentine side Quilmes Atletico Club on Monday to extend the loan deal for midfielder Nelson Gonzalez through the 2011 MLS season.

Gonzalez was acquired on loan from the then-Argentine Second Division side last August and will continue to occupy an International Player spot on Real Salt Lake's roster through the remainder of the loan spell.

"We are happy to have Nelson signed up to stay with us for at least this season and next," said RSL General Manager Garth Lagerwey. "He is a talented young player who works hard, and we feel that a further investment on our part will lead to continued progress by Nelson, giving him an opportunity to become an even bigger part of our team."

Gonzalez has appeared in six matches this season for RSL, including one start.

Per team policy, financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.

Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
